Seven-Year-Old Ragini Hops 400 Meters Daily to School, Appeals to DM for a Cycle
Seven-year-old Ragini of Ballia’s Rani Pur village hops 400 meters to school after losing the use of one leg. Her appeal to “DM Uncle” for a cycle went viral, prompting offers of tricycles and medical help.
Her father is a daily wage laborer, and the family lives in a modest hut. Despite her physical difficulty, Ragini refuses to miss school and travels around 400 meters to reach her school by hopping on one leg.
The journey is often painful. Ragini sometimes stops to rest and, at times, cries before continuing towards school. Despite these difficulties, she remains determined to attend classes regularly.

https://t.co/GapjDG7gTB pic.twitter.com/AaqzFw3oeR
Her situation came to wider attention after she made a heartfelt appeal to “DM Uncle” for a cycle. The appeal was widely shared, drawing offers of help from at least 20 people, including offers of tricycles and medical assistance.
Following the widespread response, officials sent a team along with doctors to assess Ragini’s condition. A medical assessment is being carried out, and officials have promised that a medical report will be prepared.
Ragini’s daily struggle to reach school has drawn attention to the difficulties faced by a young child who continues her education despite limited mobility and her family’s financial constraints. The official medical assessment and offers of assistance now provide a possible path towards addressing her immediate needs.
